Another brand new day...
I wonder how many of us have experienced being on a beautiful beach, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the fragrant sea air, and as we venture out into the sparkling water for a little cool-down, a huge wave crashes on top of us, sending us spinning uncontrollably to the bottom. Scared and disoriented we flail desperately trying to figure out which way is up. We may even have the irrational, fleeting thought, "Am I going to die?" By the grace of God we fly up and out of the water and catch a much needed breath. Feeling embarrassed and trying to appear as though we, "meant to do that", we make our way back to our beach chair and hide under the large brim of our sun hat hoping that anyone who may have noticed, will quickly forget and move on.
We went from happy, safe and secure, to completely out of control and "Please God, don't let me die out here", in a mere matter of seconds. Isn't this a great picture of how we react when things come out of nowhere or when things don't go the way we think they should? Everything is great one moment and the next moment we are flailing and trying to figure out which way is up. All the while, God is there. "For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13 I don't know about you, but I sometimes forget that God is holding me. When the waves come... and they will, God will set us right-side-up. Thank you Father, for holding on to me and for never letting me go, no matter how much I may flail, and try to make it on my own. I am not alone.
